The Department of Sociology at Leicester is one of the most prominent and influential in the country.

It was one of the first departments of sociology to be established in Britain, and has a long and well-respected tradition both in teaching and research. There are few branches of the discipline in which it has not had some influence.

Our undergraduates programmes are designed to provide students both with knowledge of the major perspectives and core areas in contemporary sociology and with sets of key skills– analytic, qualitative and quantitative – that can be applied in many different kinds ofcareers. Many of our students go on pursue highly successful careers in local and national organizations, in both the public and private sectors. Our graduates also have a good track record with regard to careers in academia and teaching.
